Adjacent to Kathmandu's convention center and not far from the airport, the Hotel Everest provides some of the best mountain views of any hotel in the city. (Be sure to request a room on an upper floor on the north side of the hotel.) Even though the location is not convenient to the city center, it is a good base for exploring both Bhaktapur and Patan. While the hotel itself is generically international in design, doormen and bellhops in Tibetan felt boots should provide an immediate sense of place. A recent renovation has given the guest rooms new carpets, silk curtains, and a vaguely neo-Italianate look. Maybe not what you were expecting in Nepal but pleasant enough.It has hosted royalty, dignitaries and the celebrities of the world.
