Eastern Region (Everest Region)

The Everest Region is the region of Mahalangur Himalayan range where lies the Mt. Everest, traditionally known as Chomolungma -“Mother Goddess” or Sagarmatha – “Head reaching the sky “ the world’s highest mountain. In the region lies other mountains such as Cho Oyu (8153m), Lhotse (8511m), Nuptse (7879m), Makalu (8470m), Ama Dablam (6856m) .This is the most concentrated mountain region with the highest mountains; that is more than 200 peaks are higher than 6000m. The region is also the home of the Sherpas and outpost of Tibetan Buddhism with its many fascinating monasteries. The mountains, the people, their villages and their way of life ensure lasting memories of the walk.



a) Expedition Route

Grade: 5 Days: 21 – 25

This 3 week trek follows the old and ancient route to Mt. Everest. Sir Edmund Hillary and Mr. Tenzing Sherpa had taken the same route in 1952. A seven hour drive takes you to Jiri, from where the trek starts. The route passes through beautiful forests, farming country sides and several monasteries. Once one had passed Lukla, we climb on to Namche, the main trading village of the Khumbu area continuing via Thyangboche monastery to Pherche and Lobuche. The trekkers have the opportunity to climb Kala Pathar (5545m), overlooking the Base Camp area and offering a superb view of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and other mountains of the region. A half an hour flight from Lukla takes us back to Kathmandu.

b) Gokyo – Everest Base Camp

Grade: 5 Days: 18 – 22

This trek gives an ample opportunity to explore the Everest region thoroughly. It provides the possibility to walk through some of the most dramatic landscapes through Kumbu Himal, Gokyo valley and pass. A half an hour flight from Kathmandu will take us to Lukla; the route follows the Dudh Koshi to its source near the Gokyo Lake to the west of the Everest Base Camp. Trekkers have an opportunity to climb Gokyo Makalu and many other peaks. After crossing the Chyugima La pass (5420m), the route circles back via Everest Base Camp, Kala Pathar and Thyangboche monastery to Lukla.

c) Kala Pathar – Everest Base Camp

Grade: 5 Days: 15 – 25

This trek starts after a spectacular flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, from where we take an interesting route to the heart of Sherpa country. After Namche, the views are stunning. We take time to explore the region. En route are the Khumjung, Pangboche and Thangboche and numerous Sherpa villages. Thyangboche Ridge (3875m) is said to be the most beautiful place on earth by most of trekkers. As early morning sun rays descend on Kala Pathar (5545m), it offers a spectacular view of Pumori (7145m), Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and wild beauty of the Khumbu region. Return is via Pangboche and Phortse villages, which lie high above the junction of the Dudh Koshi and Imja Khola.

d) Sherpa Village

Grade: 4 Days: 12 – 15

This fascinating trek takes you to the heart of the giant massifs passing through colorful and beautiful Sherpa villages, each village having something unique to offer. En routes are the Namche Bazaar, Thengboche, Phorse, Khumjung, Pangboche, and numerous Sherpa villages and rustic scenes. One rest day is planned at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and also to give the benefit of the absolutely majestic views of the mountains and to understand the world famous opportunity to explore the monastery situated at the world’s highest elevation. It is an ideal trek to enjoy the views of Everest, Nuptse and Ama Dablam in a less strenuous way.
